Blackberry Blood Orange Amaro Sangria

SECRET INGREDIENT

This fall/winter red wine sangria features a secret ingredient that gives it a great mouth feel and adds a complex depth of flavor not often found in sangria: Amaro! This Blackberry Blood Orange Amaro Sangria is infused with luscious Amaro Lucano and bursting with fall and winter fruits like blackberries, figs and blood orange. It is the perfect cocktail to batch ahead of time for a party or casual get together. The Amaro punches up the sangria ABV a bit, but it’s still a lower ABV drink to serve at holiday parties to make sure your guests, who might be party hoping, can make it through ad long night of sipping.

AMARO LUCANO

Amaro Lucano adds subtle bitter notes to this red wine sangria that mingles harmoniously with sweet figs* and tart blackberries. Lemons and seasonal blood oranges add bright citrus notes that are rounded out with a long infusion time (I like to infuse my sangria for 24 hours before serving). Fresh apple juice adds a natural sweetness that when paired with the bittersweet Amaro, requires no sugar to be added to this sangria. Amaro Lucano is an Italian aperitif made with over 30 herbs. These blend of herbs lend the layer of complexity that have given Amaro Lucano it’s distinct flavor profile since 1884. The sangria is finished with a fresh thyme to highlight these herbal characteristics.

*If you can not find fresh figs this time of year, dried figs can be used as well.

SERVE IT IN STYLE

I used a vintage drink caddy with beautiful gold foil leave glasses. I have been eying glassware like this for awhile and knew it was destined for serving this Amaro sangria in! A drink caddy is perfect for parties and holiday entertaining, it’s a fun way to serve up batched cocktails like a festive punch or a vibrant sangria. You can mix up drinks in the kitchen and carry out the caddy to serve to your mingling friends and family. This vintage gold caddy and patterned glassed would be darling or for those with a more minimal aesthetic, this caddy is a modern option. This Blackberry Blood Orange Sangria with Amaro Lucano is an easy peasy drink to mix up for your party a day ahead to have ready to have in your guests hands when they walk in the door.
