When most people curl up with a good book, they reach for a glass of wine to sip on. Not me, I like to take things up a notch, bourbon is my literary drink of choice! Especially when there is a juicy novel involved!
Recently, I picked up the Everybody Rise novel from Stephanie Clifford and knew I had to do one better for this cautionary tale of social climbing and extravagant lifestyles in New York; I made a cocktail based on the book! The Golden Ladder (I mean, how else would you social climb in ritzy NYC) cocktail is peppered with the deep, sweet flavors of fresh figs and adorned with edible gold leaf. What better why to depict superfluous spending then with a drink that features *edible gold leaf shinning on top?!
Head over to SFGirlByBay to get the recipe for this tasty, in season sipper!
*Edible gold leaf is not easy to work with. With the smallest of breaths, it can turn into dust in the wind. It will stick to just about anything it comes in contact with and turn them gilded (like your hand or cat, don’t ask) rather than your intended treat or drink. Use a paint brush to apply and an exacto knife to divided the gold leaf sheets into sections.
